With the huge demand for local food, BigBarn and the Mail want to give people an incentive to visit their local food producers and in so doing encourage them to shop locally more often. English Wine Week - 26th May - 3rd June

17 May 2007 (327

This year’s English Wine Week runs from 26th May to 3rd June and will promote and develop awareness of English vineyards and the competitive quality of their produce.
The national campaign will see vineyards throughout the country promoting themselves to the public, offering tastings, vineyard tours, special events and working with other outlets. Many vineyards have also linked up with retailers, bars and restaurants to offer tastings and discounts to the public. The on and off trade will also be on board again as more and more outlets are now stocking English wine, and making customers aware of the quality of English wines.

The Great Taste Awards

Great changes for Great Taste

Now in its 14th year, the Great Taste Awards has gained widespread recognition among the country’s retailers and consumers and is now seen as the benchmark for fine food in the UK. Those products fortunate enough to receive an award cannot only claim to be of the finest quality, but prove it too. All entries undergo rigorous tests by a specially selected panel of experts, including leading chefs, buyers, food critics and deli owners. But the Great Taste Awards is more than just a competition; it’s an accreditation scheme. Products bearing the logo have been independently proven to be of origin, quality and excellence. So if your product achieves gold standard, you can be certain it has done so on merit – and perhaps more importantly, so can your customers.

The Big Green Lunch

06 May 2007 (67

The Big Green Lunch – which is being organised by British watercress growers (The Watercress Alliance) – is all about enjoying a meal with your family, friends or colleagues while supporting a great cause. In return, your guests make a donation to Lynn’s Bowel Cancer Campaign. What’s more, by including a superfood such as watercress in your lunch dishes, you’ll be giving your guests a healthy boost. Watercress is packed full of vitamins and minerals and a wide number of scientific studies suggest it could play a role in cancer prevention.

To raise some additional funds and inject even more fun into the proceedings, why not suggest everyone wears something green to the lunch – a scarf, tie, or even a whole outfit! You could have an auction where guests could bring unwanted items of value or you could even auction promises such as a night of babysitting or making the coffee at work. If you want to exercise your brain as well as your taste buds, why not hold a quiz? What you need to do…

  • Register to take part so you can hold your very own Big Green Lunch.
  • Download materials for your event – whether at home, work or in the community, we have everything you need.
  • Check out what special events are going on and who’s getting involved in the latest news
