UKTV LOCAL HERO AWARDS 2007
Leading the hunt for this year's winner is Gary Rhodes who will be assessing the strongest contenders from each region based on a combination votes from the public and the judging panel. The search will be based on thousands of nominees voted by you the public, the people who understand the value of fantastic local food.

Each episode will concentrate on a specific region with a regional advocate celebrating the finalists who have made it down to the last five - those nominees that best demonstrate a remarkable commitment to producing, selling or serving great food.

At the end of each episode a regional winner will be chosen - this year one of the five regional finalists will be chosen exclusively by the public, so get voting!

What's in it for the winner
In the nail biting national final all 10 regional winners will battle it out for the honour of being crowned the UK's Local Food Hero 2007 and winning the highly coveted prize which will safeguard their business for the future, £40,000.

Last year's nominees
Places that the public voted for in 2006 are still eligible to win this year - and all their previous votes have gone back to zero.

More about the awards
There's been a resurgence of interest in local food traditions and commitment to quality - and with good reason. While modern farming methods, microwave meals, and food miles continue to cast a shadow, there's a growing band of dedicated people who care enough to make a difference on what we buy and how we eat. We're looking to support small-scale businesses that exhibit pride and passion for their craft. These are the unsung food heroes that don't compromise on quality in favour of making a fast buck on mass production lines.
